Hill-Castle-Stone-Year

Audiovisual installation
The Kaliningrad region is full of myths and legends. Most of the legends are Prussian, but a significant part has already been formed in the post-war period. Legends and myths often appear due to a lack of information about the history of this place, as well as due to a change in belonging to a cultural community. This is especially true for territories that were abandoned or abandoned, as well as those that moved from one country / community to another, thus breaking the historical connection and continuity.

In the process of working on the project, more than 50 myths and legends of the Kaliningrad region were collected. As a result of the semantic analysis of the texts, the core was determined - the most frequently occurring words and key phrases. Then, sentences were compiled from this core using an automatic algorithm, from which a new meta-legend was assembled. This legend, read in an artificial voice, forms a mythological image (auditory, verbal) of the region.
In turn, the pyramid represents a visual image of the region. Mountain / pyramid / hill / high ground - the most common synonymous group of words in myths and legends. The 4 sides of the pyramid represent the 4th direction of the world - 4 visual dominants of the region. This is the Prussian past, crumbling before our eyes, the military-patriotic-Orthodox present, everything connected with the sea, and rural/agricultural.

The concentrated image is totalitarian and cruel in its essence. Sweeping aside the insignificant, determining what is important and what is not, we embark on the path of ideology ...
